Up to 15 different "Erste Gewächs" premium vineyards supply the grapes for the Geheimrat "J" vintage cuvée. Following the concept of Bordeaux‘s first wines, Geheimrat "J" was first introduced in 1983. The internal quality standards still exceed those of the Rheingau "Erste Gewächse". Geheimrat "J" is produced only in good to excellent years. Poor vintages are skipped, as happened for example in 1984, 1987 and 1991. The final wine will be introduced 15 months after the harvest at the earliest.
