FARY LOCHAN DESTILLERI was founded in December 2009 by Jens-Erik Jørgensen. The distillery is a family-run company with approximately 375 shareholders. The distillery has grown steadily since then and today it is considered one of the flagships of the Danish whisky industry. From the very beginning, Jens-Erik Jørgensen defined the principles of the business as quality and vision; these principles have been followed ever since. The production process and the final product are always of the highest quality. We never compromise on quality. Because of these principles, FARY LOCHAN has become recognized for its high quality, unique history and excellent flavor. In 2019, FARY LOCHAN received the finest seal of approval when it was acknowledged by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS); the first distillery in Denmark (and mainland Europe) to receive this accolade. The whisky was even given the rare and very exclusive “Premium label” by the SMWS. FARY LOCHAN DESTILLERI is set in the small village of Farre in the heart of Jutland; here we take advantage of the fresh air, the beautiful surroundings and friendly neighbors. The distillery fits in harmoniously with the surrounding countryside and the buildings blend in perfectly with the nearby stream, lake and forest. Thanks to this environment, the whisky has the most favorable conditions for its aging process. The village of Farre has been inhabited for more than 2000 years. Back in 1475, the village was called Fary, which means “the hill by the crossing of Omme Stream”. FARY LOCHAN is located at this exact crossing; strategically and historically in just the right place. – And from this the name “FARY LOCHAN” originates. The village “Fary” and “Lochan” which translates to small lake in Scottish Gaelic.
